Glimpse of Pekoe Trail – Stage 2
Stage two of the pekoe trail will put your calves to the test. The hike is split into two sections. The first, a shorter trail, takes you from Galaha to Deltota. The second leads from Deltota to Loolkandura.
Your journey begins in Galaha, a picturesque town nestled in the hills of Sri Lanka’s central highlands. The trail takes you through the scenic Deltota Estate, following estate roads past an old kovil and over rugged mountains. Be ready for plenty of twists and turns as you approach Deltota, a typical hill-country town with a vibrant market—a perfect spot to take a break and enjoy fresh local fruits. From Deltota, you’ll walk beneath the towering pine trees, but be cautious of leeches, particularly during the rainy season.
The trail takes you through the historic Loolkandura Estate, Sri Lanka’s first tea plantation, founded in 1867 by Scotsman James Taylor, often called the ‘father of Ceylon tea.’ As you continue along the tea trails, you’ll pass through some of the most picturesque tea bushes, with stunning views that include a massive rock formation and lush tropical rainforests. The stage concludes in Loolkandura.
